BPD officer charged with DUI

A Billings police officer has been charged with drunken driving
and speeding in Helena.

Officer Samantha Lynn Puckett, 24, has been placed on paid
administrative leave pending an internal affairs investigation as a
result of the charges, BPD Sgt. Kevin Iffland said Wednesday.

Puckett has been a Billings police officer for about 15
months.

According to Helena City Court records, Puckett was stopped by a
police officer in downtown Helena on Dec. 10 at 1:56 a.m.

The officer cited Puckett for driving 45 mph in a 30 mph
zone.

The officer also issued Puckett a citation for DUI Per Se, which
alleges she was operating a motor vehicle with a blood-alcohol
level above the state legal limit of 0.08 percent.

According to the citation, a preliminary breath test showed
Puckett had a blood-alcohol level of 0.111 percent.

A second breath test showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.101
percent.

The citation did not indicate how much time elapsed between the
two tests.

Puckett pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor offenses the same
day she received the citations. A trial is set for Jan. 12.

Iffland said Puckett was in Helena to attend the Montana Law
Enforcement Academy graduation ceremony Friday morning.

Puckett was driving a 2008 Chevrolet SUV, according to the
