Cicero woman charged in DUI crash on CTA tracks – Chicago Sun

FROM SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE

A west suburban woman had a blood alcohol level of .188 when she crashed a Jeep into a median early Friday, sending the vehicle flying over freight tracks and onto the CTA Blue Line tracks in west suburban Oak Park.

Jessica Garcia, 21, of the 1300 block of South 59th Avenue in Cicero has been charged with one felony count of aggravated DUI, and misdemeanor counts of DUI and driving without a valid license, Oak Park police Cmdr. LaDon Reynolds said Monday.

Garcia was also cited with operating an uninsured motor vehicle and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash, Reynolds said.

Garcia was charged Sunday night after toxicology tests revealed she had a .188 blood alcohol level when she crashed onto the tracks, Reynolds said.

Crews responded at 3:18 a.m. to a report of a vehicle on the CTA tracks near the Austin Station on the Blue Line, according to Oak Park police.

The vehicle was apparently northbound on Taylor Avenue when it crossed Garfield Street, struck a guard rail and flipped onto the Blue Line tracks, according to Oak Park police Cmdr. Clemet Harbour.

The vehicle came to a rest on the northbound track of the Forest Park Branch of the Blue Line, CTA spokesperson Kim Myles said.

Garcia crawled out of the vehicle and was conscious when police arrived on the scene, police said. She was not seriously injured but had dislodged several teeth.

She was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, according to Harbour. She was the only person in the vehicle.

Full service was returned to the Blue Line about two hours later, Myles said.

Garcia was expected to appear for a bond hearing Monday at the Maywood courthouse, although court information was not immediately available.
