The Coachella Police Department will conduct a DUI/driver’s license checkpoint tonight.
To reduce the number of people killed or injured in alcohol-involved crashes, DUI checkpoints are conducted to identify offenders and get them off the street, and to educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving, police said.
Tonight’s operation will be conducted from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. Traffic volume and weather permitting, all vehicles may be checked and drivers under the influence will be arrested, according to police. The exact location of the checkpoint was not disclosed.
The operation is funded by state grant money provided by the federal government.
