An Englewood man is charged in the death of a woman in a DUI-related crash early Saturday about a mile from the mans home.
Jeremiah Thompson, 36, of the 6900 block of South Laflin Street, is charged with aggravated DUI involving a fatal accident, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol level exceeding the 0.08 legal limit, failure to reduce speed, failure to keep in the lanes, driving without insurance, and driving without due care to a pedestrian in the roadway, according to a police News Affairs release.
The man’s exact blood alcohol level was not available early Monday, according to police News Affairs Officer Ronald Gaines.
The 35-year-old woman — identified Yasha Hicks, of the 8600 block of South Aberdeen Street, — was a pedestrian when the crash happened about 2:15 a.m. in the 7300 block of South Racine Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
Hicks was later pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center at 2:42 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiners office.
An autopsy performed Saturday revealed Hicks died of multiple injuries from a motor vehicle striking a pedestrian and her death was ruled an accident, the medical examiners office said.
Maps indicate Thompson lived about a mile away from the crash.
Thompson is scheduled for a bond hearing Monday.
The police Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating.
