Four arrested at Chula Vista DUI checkpoint Saturday

Sunday, February 20, 2011 at 11:24 a.m.

— Chula Vista police made four drunken-driving arrests during a sobriety and driver’s license checkpoint Saturday night.

The checkpoint was aimed at increasing public awareness and decreasing the number of people driving while intoxicated.

Of the 111 vehicles stopped, 13 people were evaluated for driving under the influence and four were arrested. Of those arrested, one had an outstanding DUI warrant, and another had three prior arrests that elevated his arrest Saturday to a felony.

Four people stopped were driving on a suspended license and five had no driver’s licenses. Ten vehicles were impounded. One stolen vehicle was recovered, and 37 citations were issued for various vehicle code violations.

The Chula Vista Police Department is operating comprehensive drunken driving enforcement and education programs through several grants.
