North Charleston Police Chief Speaks About Officers DUI, Firing

(NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C.) — After one of his officers was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of driving under the influence, North Charleston Police Chief Jon Zumalt admitting Wednesday the officer had made a mistake.

South Carolina state troopers arrested Nicolas Lomma, 25, after his police crusier had been found in a ditch on Bennett’s Point Road in Colleton County Saturday morning. By department rule, cruisers are not supposed to go more than 10 miles outside of city limits, Zumalt said.

Lomma, who had been with the department since 2008, was fired on Monday.
