Woman killed after DUI crash in Weymouth

By Emma Stickgold, Globe Correspondent

A 25-year-old woman was killed early this morning, and the driver of the vehicle she was ejected from will be charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, Weymouth police said.

April Ivil was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which happened shortly after 5:15 a.m. near Commercial and Harding streets in Weymouth.

Matthew Murray, 25, was held at the Weymouth police station and is scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow morning at Quincy District Court on charges of motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence of alcohol, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and marked lanes violations, among other charges, according to police.

Murray and a male passenger were taken to South Shore Hospital, where Murray was formally arrested, and later released. The other passenger suffered minor injuries.

Police said it appeared the car struck a snow bank, and that no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

A woman who answered at the number listed for Ivils family said family members were not able to come to the phone at the time.
